      • Dual-level accreditation: Speed School is the first and only engineering school to achieve dual-level accreditation for its baccalaureate and masters programs
      • Speed's Engineering co-op program, founded 86 years ago, requires every engineering student to complete three semesters of paid co-op work training. 250 students out every semester. Only ten schools in the US have this requirement. Speed is one of four of the original engineering co-op programs that require mandatory co-op training (with Cincinnati, Northeastern, and Drexel)
      • The Micro/Nano technology Center is home to one of the premier multidisciplinary research facilities in the region which includes a 10,000 sq. ft. multi-user cleanroom core facility; rated Top 10 in Micro/Nano Technology by “Small Times Magazine”.
      • An interdisciplinary team of researchers led by Speed School Bioengineering faculty were awarded  a $3.33 million Coulter Translational Partnership Award to help commercialize promising academic innovations into medical solutions to benefit patients. UofL is one of only 15 institutions to participate in this Coulter program.

      • Conn Center for Renewable Energy:  In collaboration with the State of Kentucky, UofL has established the Conn Center for Renewable Energy Research at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering. The Conn Center provides leadership, research, support and policy development in renewable energy; advances the goal of renewable energy; and promotes technologies, practices, and programs that increase efficiency for energy utilization in homes, businesses and public buildings.

      The Speed School is dedicated to educating engineers who will be the future thought leaders, discoverers and innovators for our society. Its faculty are committed to educational excellence, research, and technology transfer.  The Speed School is the first engineering school in the country to achieve dual-level accreditation of its B.S. and MEng programs, and one of only a handful of engineering colleges with a required cooperative education component.
