Artist Statement: Rashad Ali Muhammad's LIBERATED series delves into the profound introspective question: What does your reality resemble when you cease concerning yourself with the opinions of family, friends, colleagues, and society? Through the medium of collage, the series explores the liberation from societal expectations and self-imposed limitations. Collage symbolizes the act of reimagining and reconfiguring the narratives imposed upon us, empowering individuals to shape their own identities authentically. In a world where conformity often dictates our paths, LIBERATED reminds us that we possess the agency to live our lives true to ourselves, unbound by external pressures.

RASHAD ALI MUHAMMAD is an interdisciplinary artist working across various mediums, including analog and digital collage, assemblage, graphics, painting, sound design, photography, and non-narrative video. He's known for creating vivid and captivating works reflecting the vast complexities of our human existence. Muhammad's ongoing journey to expand his emotional intelligence ignited his desire to explore the intricacies of the human experience—the expansive intersections that shape our lives and how we can relate to each other beyond the surface. His experiences as a queer, gender-nonconforming person of the African diaspora reflect his fondness for utilizing art as a catalyst to liberate minds from the binary confines of society. Through his art, he cultivates open space for healing and rejuvenation from our chaotic world.
