September 14th,15th - Two Day Backpacking/Camping Trip- Red River Gorge
$40 per person. This trip is geared for hiking enthusiasts. You will enjoy all the red river gorge had to offer. Sightseeing varies based on Gorge and time of year. Camping will be on a primitive campsite in an established campground. Rental equipment and transportation included.
September 18th - Introduction to Backpacking Seminar- 6-8pm SRC Classroom
FREE. This course will cover equipment selection and use, what to pack, efficient packing strategies, leave no trace principles, blister treatment and prevention, planning processes, and basic outdoor living techniques. Ages 18+
October 5th- Paddle board at Taylorsville Lake
$50 per person. Transportation is included
October 9th - Wilderness First Aid Considerations-6-7:30pm SRC Classroom
FREE. This course will cover first aid principles participants should consider when planning outdoor trips, strategies for backcountry care, and a list of items that should be included in a comprehensive wilderness first aid kit.
October 16th - Leave No Trace Workshop-6-7pm SRC Classroom
FREE. This is an introduction to Leave No Trace principles and the actions we can collectively take to recreate responsibly. In this workshop we will discuss helpful information with a simple framework of minimum impact practices to apply when spending time outdoors.
October 25th, 26th - Hiking and Horseback Riding-Cumberland Falls State Park, Kentucky
$60 per person. This trip is for students looking to enjoy a weekend away from campus while enjoying a variety of activities. Saturday consists of a six mile hike to two breathtaking waterfalls on the Sheltowee Trace Trail. Students will then tent camp overnight at Clifty Campground. On Sunday morning, students will have the opportunity to ride horses through the Kentucky countryside.
November 6th - Backpacking Stoves-6-8pm SRC Classroom
FREE. This course will cover the various types of backpacking stoves, their features, benefits and drawbacks of various models, and include recommendations for those who are interested in purchasing a stove in the near future. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to create a backpacking stove out of recycled materials.
