Report of the Faculty Athletics Representative

The Committee on Academic Performance (CAP) held its initial fall meeting on 8 September 2015 to name its sub-committees and set up the year’s agenda.  The next meeting is scheduled for 20 October.  To give you an idea of the Committee’s and FAR’s responsibilities, I attach the CAP/FAR report for 2014-2015.

One of my duties as FAR is to attend the five annual in-person meetings of the ACC FARs.  The first of these is the ACC Fall Meeting of FARs, ADs, and SWAs, October 5-7, at FSU, from whence I write!  One of the key issues under discussion in our conference and across the division involves academic integrity and misconduct.  We will be discussing U of L's policies and devising a uniform policy for the university.

As a result of allegations which have been made that pertain to U of L athletics, I have been called to serve on the institutional investigating team, as authorized by NCAA and U of L protocols.  The University is conducting its review in full cooperation and coordination with the NCAA.  To preserve the integrity of the review process, I will withhold comment on any details until the review is concluded.

I do hope that the semester is going well, and that you have come back refreshed from our fall break.
