The Operations unit provides operational support for the University of Louisville campus communities. Together, we work to provide operational effectiveness and the enhancement of the overall experience that is aligned with the university’s vision and mission.

Mark Watkins

Mark Jason Watkins

Chief Operating Officer

As Chief Operating Officer, Mark is personally committed to continually drive excellence through transformation and services excellence to which other aspire in all of our operations. As part of the leadership team for the Vice President for Finance and Administration/Chief Financial Officer, Watkins oversees all of the operations units including: Environmental Health and Safety, Operations Support Services, Physical Plant and HSC Facilities Management, Police, Procurement, University Planning Design and Construction, and Business Services which includes UofL Bookstore, Dining Services, Vending, Credit Union, Parking, Card Services, Print and Mail Services, and Leasing.

Mark has previously served as the Senior Associate Vice President for Operations serving our three campuses. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Iowa State University, and his Master of Science from Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Prior to coming to the university Mark was the Regional Vice President for Sodexo USA since 2003, were he lead contract management partnerships with universities throughout the Midwest and eastern United States and Sports and Leisure Nationally.

Sally Molsberger

Chief Procurement Officer

Sally has over 19 years in business-public sector and 18 years in university procurement. She oversees: Procurement Services, Contract Administration, Inventory Control/Central Receiving/Stockroom, ProCard and Fuel Card, as well as Merchant Services.

Melissa Long Shuter

Executive Director, Operations Support Services

Melissa Long Shuter leads Business Operations – a shared services team and Business Strategic Support, a strategic budgeting and planning services team. Operations Support Services improves enterprise processes for both the employees/departments as well as the central units. With over 30 years of higher education experience leading and managing various initiatives and operations, she works with staff daily to leave a process better than when she found it and as a professional seeks fact and data to continually improve.

Sajid Mian

Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management

Sajid Mian is the newly appointed Assistant Vice President for Facilities Management at the University of Louisville. As part of the university leadership team, he will be responsible for facilities management and university planning, design and construction.

Nancy Tierney

Associate Vice President for HSC Facilities Management

Nancy Tierney has over 30 years in facilities planning in academic medical centers, including at the University of Michigan, Stanford, and University of Arizona. Activities include programming, planning and designing biomedical research and health sciences instructional facilities, space management, facilities operations. Currently oversees space and facilities planning on the HSC campus.

Cheri Hildreth

Director, Department of Environmental Health and Safety

Cheri Hildreth leads the Environmental Health and Safety Department as Director and has over thirty years of experience in this role at UofL. She oversees the functional areas of radiation safety, chemical safety, biological safety, industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, hazardous waste management, environmental compliance, environmental due diligence and hazardous materials emergency response. Cheri is past president of the Campus Safety Health and Environmental Management Association an organization of EHS professionals in higher education.

Chief Gary D. Lewis, Jr.

Chief of Police

Chief Gary Lewis, Jr. brings twenty-eight years of law enforcement experience and serves as the Director of Campus Safety/Chief of Police responsible for the supervision of sworn law enforcement officers; security officers, 9-1-1 Communications Center; Clery timely reporting; access control and security system; fire, as well as emergency management for the University of Louisville campus community.
