About the Department and Staff


Mission

The Vice President for Business Affairs reports to the Executive Vice President/Provost, and is responsible for the physical facilities and safety of the university. The unit strives to:

    1. Promote and enhance campus safety
    2. Provide quality service to students, faculty, staff and visitors
    3. Promote a safe and healthful environment for faculty, staff, students and visitors

    4. Protect and enhance the University's fiscal resources
    5. Protect and enhance the University's physical facilities
    6. Improve operational effectiveness and improve productivity
    7. Comply with appropriate federal, state and local requirements

Staff 

Larry Owsley, Vice President for Business Affairs. Serves as the university's chief business officer. Functions reporting to the Business Affairs Office include Contract Administration and Risk Management, Department of Environmental Health and Safety, Human Resources, Physical Plant, Public Safety including Parking, Purchasing, and University Planning Design and Construction.

Larry Detherage, Associate Vice President for Facilities. Responsible for operation of the Physical Plant Department and the Department of Environmental Health and Safety. This entails facilities and grounds maintenance and safety oversight of environmental health and safety issues on all three campuses.  ph (502) 852-6245, fax (502) 852-8210


Ken Dietz, Director of Planning, Design and Construction. Responsible for administrative functions associated with campus/facilities planning, capital construction administration and central scheduling for university facilities.  ph (502) 852-6176, fax (502) 852-6841


Cheri Hildreth, Director of the Department of Environmental Health and Safety.  Provide the university with environmental health and safety service through technical and regulatory compliance assistance, information and training programs, consulting services and periodic auditing and/or environmental health and safety practices.  ph (502) 852-6670, fax (502) 852-0880

Susan Medley, Administrative Assistant. Assist the Vice President for Business Affairs and his Administrative Associate in the following areas: correspondence, logs, reports; serve as receptionist for VPBA Office; clerical support to Assistant to the Vice President and the Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs with account reconciliations, budget preparations and special projects as needed.  ph (502) 852-6163, fax (502) 852-4337

Mitchell Payne, Associate Vice President for Business Affairs. Responsible for the operations of contract administration (including food services, campus bookstore and many others), purchasing, insurance, risk management, postal services, inventory control, workers compensation, property management, university police/security, fire safety, parking, and the campus card office.  ph (502) 852-5155, fax (502) 852-4337


Terri Rutledge, Assistant Vice President for Business Affairs. Assists the Vice President in his daily activities. Responsible for coordinating compliance activities within the unit. Darlene Shircliff, Administrative Associate. Assist the Vice President for Business Affairs in coordination of appointments, meeting arrangements, committee meetings, reports, logs, travel, entertainment activities, and special projects, etc.  ph (502) 852-5143, fax (502) 852-4337


Melissa Long Shuter, Assistant to the Vice President for Business Affairs. Responsible for oversight of divisions operating budgets (general, plant and foundation funds), planning and communication issues, and coordinates all fiscal resources.  ph (502) 852-6151, fax (502) 852-4337


Leellen Starrett, Program Assistant Senior. Assist the Associate Vice President for Business Affairs in coordination of daily activities in the following areas: appointments, meeting arrangements, committee meetings, correspondence, reports, file retention, travel arrangements and other projects/assignments as needed.

Chris Weaver, Coordinator of Computer Operations. Responsible for Tier I support and technology systems for all VPBA departments. Advises the Vice President for Business Affairs on technology-related policies, procedures, and strategic planning.
