Welcome from the Chair

Welcome to the Department of Pan-African Studie.  PAS recently celebrated it’s 40th Anniversary, making it one of the oldest Black/Africana Studies departments in the country.

Pan-African Studies (PAS) is the study of the cultures and societies of Africa and persons of African ancestry, both past and present. Our students study the diffusion of African people and cultures in North America, the Caribbean and South America, with special focus on the United States.

The department offers both the Bachelor of Arts and the Bachelor of Science in Pan-African Studies.

The majors offer coursework in cultural, historical and social studies, as well as possible field or study abroad experiences, for studentsinterested in this multidisciplinary field.

We also offers three minors:

  • Black Performance Studies
  • Pan-African Studies
  • Race and Gender Studies
