VoIP Installation Logistics

The VoIP conversion is intended to replace existing telephone equipment and lines - not to provide new or different services to your department.

At the beginning of the process, a physical site survey will be conducted by IT staff prior to design of the VoIP system foir your department. When a design is ready your department will be sent a "cut sheet" listing all existing telephone services broken down by budget code. After you have reviewed this information and made any necessary corrections it will need to be returned via fax to, Kim M. Peckinpaugh, fax number 852-5048.

Once all the cut sheet(s) are returned, an installation date will be determined. Due to the magnitude of the project, no adds, moves, or changes will be processed in your department until the conversion is complete.

Before the day of conversion, the VoIP phone sets will be placed in their intended locations in your department. The goal is to minimize downtime as numbers are moved from the analog service to the digital infrastructure. The entire conversion implementation should take a day or less to complete.

During the conversion process, each VoIP set is connected to an ethernet data port. A computer can share the same data port, but the computer will be plugged into an ethernet port on the back of the telephone.

Information Technology personnel will available during the cut to answer any questions you may have. Formal training sessions can be provided also. For more information please contact the IT Helpdesk at 852-7997.
