Internet 2

The University of Louisville is a member of Internet2, a consortium led by universities working in partnership with industry and government to develop, deploy and use high-speed Internet technologies. Internet2 promotes collaboration and innovation among researchers and educators across the U.S.

In September 2007, the University of Louisville Information Technology received the Top TeN Leadership Award for helping to bring one of the 25 national access points of the Internet2 network to Louisville.

Postsecondary education in Kentucky participates in the Kentucky Education Network (KEN) through the Kentucky Postsecondary Education Network (KPEN). To provide better access to Internet2, and to enable new high-speed network applications, a Kentucky Regional Optical Network (KyRON) is being developed under a consortium of the Kentucky universities and the Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE).

Postsecondary education and K-12 across Kentucky have partnered to create an Internet2 SEGP (Sponsored Education Group) as part of the Internet2 K-20 Initiative that allows collaboration and participation by all of Kentucky education in the Internet2. For more information about state-wide Internet2 activities, see http://i2.ky.gov/ .
