UofL.net Remote Plus provides a graphical interface to the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW), as well as access to University e-mail and the University Libraries' resources for $8 a month.
UofL.net Remote provides a graphical interface to the University's Intranet, text based access to the Internet and University e-mail, and access to the University Libraries' resources at no monthly charge.
Will the money collected for the UofL.net Remote Plus service go directly to a fund for services, equipment, etc for the PPP (Point to Point Protocol) modems?
Yes. The UofL.net Remote program has been set up as an "enterprise" account. So the revenue from the program will be used to pay for the costs of the modem/terminal servers, telephone line charges, added HelpDesk support, and administration of this service.
I completed my Computer Account Request for a UofL.net Remote account. How long will it take to get my account?
You will normally receive notice that your account is ready on the next business day. (Account requests that are submitted on Saturday or Sunday are will be processed on Monday so you can expect a reply on Tuesday.)
I signed up for UofL.net Remote Plus on my credit card. When will the charges appear on my account?
Your credit card will be validated at the time you sign up. The $8 charge will be posted monthly starting approximately one month from the date you sign up. You will not be charged for the remainder of the current month. The first payment will cover the first full month after you sign up. Remember, according to the UofL.net Remote Terms and Conditions you are paying in advance. No partial refunds will be made when service is terminated.
I have decided to cancel my UofL.net Remote Plus account. When will my access stop? How much will I be charged for the last month?
Your access will stop about midnight on the day you cancel the service. You will be charged for the full month in which you cancel.
As a student, I do not plan to attend classes during the summer. May I continue to use my remote access during the summer term?
Yes, all accounts will remain active until August 30th. However, if you are not registered by August 30th, your account will be cancelled.
I am an employee, but am also enrolled as a student. Does it make a difference whether I sign up as a student or employee?
No. You may sign up under either program. However, if you want to pay by payroll deduction, use the employee form. You may wish to use the status which you think will last the longest since your remote access account will be closed when your relationship with UofL ends. If you expect to continue employment after you complete your studies, use the employee form. If you are a student who is temporarily employed by the university, you should use the student form.
Why do I need to specify a Preferred E-mail Account?
Notices regarding your UofL.net Remote account will be sent to your Preferred E-mail Account (PEA). Some users have an account on more than one computer. The PEA allows you to specify which account you prefer for messages concerning your UofL.net Remote account. Your PEA must be an account at the University such as Athena, Homer, Starbase, or GroupWise.
Are the IP addresses static or dynamic? That is, will I always use the same IP number when I connect to the access server?
IP addresses are assigned dynamically, so your IP address for one session may be different from the one assigned in a previous session.
