Campus Networking
UofL has a high-speed campus ethernet data network that interconnects over 100 buildings on three campuses. The main campus backbone network runs at 4Gbps over a city-wide fiber optic network. Departments can order IP (Internet Protocol) networking for computers and servers at data rates of 10/100Mbps. All campus wired network connections are switched, not shared, ensuring performance and reliability.
The campus network gives faculty, staff and students access to campus servers (e-mail, PeopleSoft), the internet, and research networks such as Internet2. Residence halls provide a 10/100Mbps ethernet connection for each resident.
Added services that can be provided through the network include firewalls to protect departmental servers, departmental print services, and network file services.
UofL has a campus cable TV infrastructure that serves the residence halls and most campus buildings.
