E-mail Encryption

HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) now includes email security and privacy regulations that require all individually-identifiable health care information be protected to ensure privacy and confidentiality when electronically stored, maintained or transmitted. Any email containing ePHI (electronic Protected Health Information) sent via email over the Internet needs to be encrypted before sending. PostX is a service which works with the GroupWise system and allows you to encrypt messages being sent outside the university network. It should always be used for email containing ePHI sent via email over the Internet. If you would like to know more about sending encrypted email please read the PostX FAQs.

SharePoint has step by step instructions on how to Open secure email sent from the University, send secure email from GroupWise Web and Macintosh Clients, send secure email from the GroupWise desktop client, and for setting up the email plug-in for the GroupWise desktop client.

For more detailed information on Secure Email at the University of Louisville, please go to https://sharepoint.louisville.edu/sites/IT/Docs/TechDoc/Forms/AllItems.aspx and click on "PostX".
