Blackberry Setup & Order Procedures
Getting the device activated/Ordered
- Place an order for a BlackBerry device. Go to: https://tele1.louisville.edu/webapp, and fill out the IT Communication Services Service request, or make arrangements through a device vendor. It is strongly suggested that you sign up for an unlimited data plan. These plans do cost more per month, but the cost is significantly lower than the cost of frequent additional overage charges beyond the charges allocated in the plan.
- Purchase a BlackBerry Enterprise Server license from the IT Store. In the order process you will need to specify a GroupWise address book that you would like to sync to the BlackBerry and your Tier1’s name. The following address books can not be used to sync up to the BlackBerry:
- Frequent Contacts
- Novell System
- Novell LDAP
- A LAN team member will setup the user on the BlackBerry server after receiving a Heat ticket.
- The user and the Tier1 will receive an email containing the correct email address and password needed for activation. Email address will be ULink user name, followed by @gwise.louisville.edu, for example: test01@gwise.louisville.edu. The activation password is only good for 48 hours.
- You will need to enter the email address and activation password into the device, then select activate. The activation process can take up to 45 minutes. If you get any errors, reply back to the email that contained the email address and password with a description of the error and a LAN team member will look in to the problem.
