HSC Computing Center Reservation Procedures

Please send reservation requests for the HSC Computing Center room 229 (Instructional Building B) to "HSB 229 Computer Classroom" as a GroupWise appointment. The "Place" field of the appointment must contain "HSB 229 Computer Classroom." The "Subject" field must contain the title of the class being held as well as "Open" or "Closed" to denote availability of the classroom to people not part of the class being held. The "Message" field requires a specific format, containing the instructor's name, e-mail address, and telephone number as well as the expected number of students. A sample appoint is provided below.

If you are not a GroupWise user, please send reservation requests to itcompctr@louisville.edu. The "Subject" field must contain only the word "Reserve." The body of the message must contain the following information.

Please note:

  • Classes must be scheduled by 5:00pm of the Friday of the week before the class is to be held. Any changes, including changing an Open class to a Closed class or changing the time of the day for the class, must be received in the same time frame. This is required to provide students, faculty, and staff with warning about reduced availability of computers
  • Requests for closed classes will only be honored if the number of students in the class meets or exceeds the number of computers in the classroom

If you do not use GroupWise then send your request with the information above to itcompctr@louisville.edu. All requests will receive an e-mail response.

Helpful advice for using the HSC Computing Center

  • Please arrive at least five minutes early to ensure that your class will start on time
  • Periodically, changes are made to the configuration of the HSC Computing Centers' computers, so we advise to verify any particular software packages and configurations you need prior to your class. HSC Computing Center staff must receive your request for any special software or configuration needs at least two weeks prior to the class
  • Students of the class should know their user id and passwords before class. Account creation requests for students, faculty, and staff are handled by Security and Account Management (asksamit@louisville.edu) and take a minimum of 24 hours to process
  • If headphones are needed for the entire class, please have as many students as possible provide their own. The HSC Computing Center can provide only a limited number of headphones. Students must present a valid University of Louisville or state issued photo ID in order to check out the headphones
  • Password changes are handled by the HSC Computing Center staff and require a University of Louisville or state issued photo ID in order to process. The class instructor should communicate with HSC Computing Center staff for the best method of handling password changes for five or more students
  • During the course of your class please notify the HSC Computing Center staff of any problems, such as technical problems or people in the class being disruptive. Problems cannot be corrected without your help
  • Storage space for commonly needed handouts are available at the front of room 229. Copying the handouts are handled through HSC CopyIT
