Antivirus Software Uninstall Instructions
F-Prot
- Open the F-Prot application window, select Preferences and Active Protection.
- Click on the Enable DVP button to disable this service, then click on OK at the bottom. Close the application and proceed to step B.
- Step B. On your desktop, click on the Start button, then Settings, Control Panel, and double click Add/Remove Programs, find the Command Antivirus entry and click on it once to highlight it. Choose "yes" when asked to confirm the removal. Click on the "Add/Remove" button.
- It is critical that you turn the machine OFF after the removal process, and prior to the installation of the new Virus Protection product.
Norton/McAfee
Verification: To verify that you have this software installed, look for the yellow shield icon in the bottom right corner of your Desktop screen or look in Start, Settings, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, then look for a Norton or Symantec Antivirus Client entry.
Removal: There are several ways to remove this software depending on the type of version you have. If the manufacturer’s instructions are not clear, another option is going to the Windows "Start" menu, "Control Panel", and double click on "Add/Remove" programs icon.
Choose the Antivirus application name, for example "Symantec Antivirus" from the list of applications, then click on the Remove button. You will then get a confirmation pop up message, choose "Yes". You will then get a confirmation screen saying that the program has been removed successfully.
It is critical that you turn the machine off after the removal process, and prior to the installation of the new Virus Protection product.
Manufacturers Instructions
For the removal of other versions of Norton or McAfee, it is best that you refer to the manufacturers uninstall procedures prior to removing the software. The instructions can typically be found under the "Help" option.
