Copyright Violations

Copyright violations (sharing of music, movies, software, etc.) will not be allowed at the University of Louisville. Guidelines for use of university accounts can be found at:

If Security and Account Management is notified that a student at UofL has broken copyright laws, the following repercussions will be enforced:
First Incident: Ethernet port will be disabled immediately*. User must complete the form Copyright Violation Form. The computer port will remain closed for one additional week after verification that all copyrighted material has been removed from the computer.
Second Incident: Ethernet port will be disabled immediately*. User will lose his/her Ethernet access for the rest of the Academic year. He/she will also be expected to meet with the Security Administrator to review and sign the Computer Usage Agreement. The Office of Student Life will be notified of the violation and students may face disciplinary action under the Code of Student Conduct.
Third Incident: Ethernet port will be disabled immediately*. User will lose his/her Ethernet access for the remainder of his/her academic career at the University of Louisville. The Office of Student Life will be notified of the violation and students will face more severe disciplinary action up to and including dismissal from the University.
All University of Louisville students are subject to the Code of Student Conduct as well as the University of Louisville Computer Policies. Residents are subject to the above and the Housing Herald as well.
* The Ethernet port is always disabled immediately after confirmation of the incident. This allows the University to respond positively to the individual or organization that has filed the complaint.
