IT Minute Transcription: Book Drive

Full video transcription

Laura Hardesty: The reason I.T. got involved in this book drive is first of all, it is a Cardinal Care Initiative. And second of all it has a family connection to I.T. Megan Geary, who is coordinating the book drive for us, is Sue Higgenbotham’s granddaughter.

Megan Geary: As a part of Brown School to graduate you have to have a senior culminating project. And for mine I wanted to give back in literacy because literacy has affected me personally in my life. So I knew my grandmother worked at UofL. I just gave her my letter and it was her idea, “Well let me give it to Cardinal Care”, and this is the outcome.

Laura Hardesty: This drive benefits University Child Health Care Specialists, it’s a clinic here at the University of Louisville. 95% of the children who are seen at this clinic are on something that’s called Passport, which is financial aid for low income families to get healthcare. Literacy is a building block for education, and even these children who may not go through four years of college, they’re going to need these literacy skills to survive in life. So, we are helping these children to get a better chance to make it through life.
