UofL Wireless Locations
The University installed wireless networking as part of a large campus network upgrade that completed in June 2007. The focus of this initial phase of wireless networking is scheduled classrooms and public areas, and the network will be continuously upgraded as funding permits.
It is important to note that wireless connections are subject to variations in reception influenced by several factors:
- bandwidth can vary with the distance from an access point
- different brands of wireless card have different transmission and reception characteristics
- reception can be affected by structural elements within a building (leading to spots where service is not available)
- radio frequency devices in an area (such as 2.4 GHz cordless telephones, unauthorized wireless access points, or scientific equipment) can generate interference that intermittently affects reception
The following building locations have working wireless networks installed. Some areas inside these buildings may not have wireless signal and therefore will limit network throughput or access.
Note: Buildings listed in bold have pervasive wireless coverage throughout the entire building. (802.11 a,b,g,n) All other buildings listed are scheduled for pervasive wireless coverage.
