What is the University of Louisville Digital Signage service?
The University of Louisville Digital Signage service is a coordinated approach to digital signage at University of Louisville. This service assists colleges, departments and auxiliary units in enhancing the University of Louisville experience through the delivery of real-time electronic communications and applications to students, faculty, staff, and visitors in campus public spaces.
What is digital signage?
Digital signage is a general term for digital display technologies (such as LCD, Plasma, and LED) that are integrated into public and private spaces for the purpose of communicating with target audiences. Interest in digital signage is rapidly increasing in higher education, where it can be used in libraries, residence halls, academic buildings, student unions, and many other campus environments. The content provided through digital signage can be static or dynamic, interactive or non-interactive, and it can comprise media types ranging from simple text and images to high-definition video.

Assessment, design and installation
The IT Communications Service team will work with each department individually to help determine how the University of Louisville Digital Signage service can help them meet their objectives, design appropriate solutions, and coordinate installations.
Player management
The University of Louisville IT Communications Service team can provide monitoring and maintenance of your department's digital signage players. In addition, you are provided with the basic tools and framework to create and manage your own content. You can concentrate on creating and managing the content rather than managing the technology behind it.
A common platform
The University of Louisville has purchased a campus-wide site license for the Cisco DMM (Digital Medial Manager) digital signage software. The University of Louisville IT Communications Service team has enhanced the Cisco solution by integrating it with other campus services such as the UofL Fast Alert emergency notification system, and Active Directory. This multi-service integration is the key to providing a secure, available, and platform-independent service.
Flexibility & usability
The University of Louisville Digital Signage service supports many types of content, which is a critical requirement for a large and diverse campus. From simple images to dynamic web and interactive applications, departments can leverage their existing expertise and resources to create and manage their own content.
Opportunities
Your department will remain in full control of your design and the scheduling of your content, with the added benefit of sharing of content with others on campus that are also using UofL Digital Signage. As the service grows, digital signage will be an integral part of the UofL Fast Alert emergency notification system.
