Odyssey Wireless Client Upgrade 06-10-2006

In late summer or early fall Odyssey Wireless Client will be upgraded for better security and usability.

In late summer or early fall Odyssey Wireless Client will be upgraded to version 4.5. New features include security enhancements, the ability to define preferred networks, and a full prompt for user name and password. The client will be available through Software Resales and CD when it is released. A version for Windows Mobile/Pocket PC is expected during the fall semester.

New Features in Odyssey Client 4.50

  • Has the ability to disable the wireless adapter when a wired network connection is available (bridging wireless and wired connections is a security issue)
  • The administrator can specify preferred networks that will be selected if in range, pre-empting an existing connection if necessary
  • Will prompt for user name and password facilitating the sharing of computers without using separate Windows user accounts
  • Supports EAP-POTP and EAP-PEAP with inner EAP-TLS
    • EAP - Extensible Authentication Protocol
    • POTP - Protected One-Time Password
    • PEAP - Protected Extensible Authentication Protocol
    • TLS - Transport Layer Security
    • WPA2 - Wi-Fi Protected Access Version 2
    • CCX2 support - Cisco Compatible Extensions Version 2
  • Includes support for RSA Soft Token

Additional information will be made available as the project progresses. If you have questions concerning this project, please contact Jim Travelstead at 852-4761 or secureit@louisville.edu.
