IT Investigates Wireless Printing - October 20, 2006

Wireless users at the University of Louisville soon may be able to print from their laptops and PCs.

Information Technology launched a wireless printing pilot in Ekstrom Library’s Tulip Tree Cafe on Sept. 14. The pilot, which will run through Nov. 1, allows PC and laptop users with compatible wireless networking cards to print from their computers to a printer in the Tulip Tree Cafe.

Wireless printing is just one of the services IT is investigating to meet the growing needs of mobile and wireless device users throughout campus, said Tom Sawyer, acting vice president for Information Technology. If the pilot is successful, IT expects to expand wireless printing to select university locations by early December.

Costs to users will be 10 cents per page, the same as for other printing.
