Daylight Savings Time Change Impacting Calendars
University communities, as well as many national businesses and individual PC and MAC users are being impacted by the Daylight Savings Time changes required under the Energy Savings Act of 2005.
As a result of these time changes:- All operating system calendars must be updated to reflect four additional weeks of daylight savings time. (3/11 – 4/4 and 10/28 – 11/4)
- Software applications, hardware devices and mobile devices which rely on calendaring systems may be affected by these changes
- All PC and MAC operating systems must be updated to accommodate the DST changes. This change requires end user intervention in most cases.
- GroupWise calendar entries during the impacted weeks, and in some cases other dates, will be incorrect. Users must manually check and update calendars after operating system fixes are applied.
What do I need to do?
Tier One staff can help make the required changes to desktop computers. You may view and print step-by-step instructions for updating PCs and Macs, and view frequently asked questions, at the following link:
https://docushare.louisville.edu/dsweb/View/Collection-4909
The instructions will help you through the following steps:
- Determine if your PC has had the Daylight Savings Time update installed.
- If the update has not been installed, it is advised that you print your GroupWise Calendar for the affected dates.
- Download the Daylight Savings Time update, if necessary.
- Delete and reschedule all impacted appointments and/or update systems settings, as appropriate.
You may make these changes anytime, but it is strongly recommended that all changes be made by Wednesday, March 7, to allow time to adjust and correct calendar entries.
An open forum for the university community will be held to discuss the daylight savings time issue, with special focus for administrative assistants and departmental Tier One support staff. Sessions will be held at 10:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m. at Bigelow Hall in the Miller IT Center on Friday, March 2.
For additional assistance, please contact your department’s Tier One representative or call the IT Help Desk at 502-852-7997.
