Meet the Staff
Sharolyn F. Pepper, Associate Director, Office of International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS)- Room 202
Sharolyn Pepper is a graduate of the University of Louisville with a Bachelor’s degree in Liberal Studies and a Minor in Spanish. Sharolyn has worked in different capacities at the University’s International Center for over 30 years. Currently she serves as the Associate Director of the International Student and Scholar Services office, ensuring University compliance for surrounding the Student Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) for our F and J nonimmigrant student and scholar populations. She serves on University committees representing and advocating for the international population at the University of Louisville. She is a member of NAFSA: Association of International Educators and served as the local arrangements chairper-son for the Louisville regional conference.
Virginia L. Hosono, Associate Director, Office of Study Abroad and International Travel (SA) - Room 103
Virginia Hosono has been with the International Center since 2002. She works closely with students to help them find the perfect program to compliment their educational goals here at the University of Louisville. She collaborates with various units and departments at UofL and abroad to ensure UofL students receive credit for their work as well as the funding they need. She serves as a campus resource for anyone wanting to know more about studying abroad through the University of Louisville.
Janet R. Batik, Assistant to the Provost, Administrative Services, IC-Room 105
Janet Batik is a native of Louisville who was raised in England, Canada and France. She has a Bachelor's in French Literature and Language and a minor in Spanish, with graduate level work in business administration. Janet has worked at UofL for over 30 years in academic publications, education, physiology and biophysics, and the Office of the Provost. She is the Provost-designee for faculty and staff international travel, as well as the point-person for gathering information and tracking data for faculty-led student group trips.
Barbara A. Jones, International Student and Scholar Coordinator, Room 201
Barbara Jones is originally from Louisville and is an alumna of the University of Louisville; earning her Bachelor Degree in Sociology and Master of Education. She has worked at the University of Louisville since 1972. She has worked in the Food Service area, Residence Life, Admissions Office, and is now in the International Center as an International Student & Scholar Coordinator. She serves as a Designated School Official (DSO) to the Department of Homeland Security and the Alternate Responsible Office (ARO) for the Department of State Exchange Visitor Program, working in immigration, academic and financial areas on the behalf of the international students and scholars. She acts as a resource person to the University and community on immigration issues. She also serves as the Chairperson for the University’s Residency Review Committee.
Beverly L. Cooper, Program Assistant, Sr., ISSS—Room 200
Beverly Cooper is currently a Program Assistant Senior in the Office of International Student and Scholar Services. She has worked at the University over 25 years. In this position, she provides clerical and administrative support to the Associate Director and two International Student Coordinators. Previously, she worked as the receptionist for the International Center.
Melissa N. Moore, Study Abroad Advisor, SA - Room 103
Melissa Moore is the Program Assistant for the Office of Study Abroad and International Travel. She began working at International Center as an undergraduate in 2006, and joined the staff of the Office of Study Abroad and International Travel in 2010. As an undergraduate, Melissa has worked with the International Students and Scholar staff to assist in the admissions process for international students. She now works with students wishing to study abroad. Melissa also creates the International Student and Faculty ID Cards (ISIC/ISIF) for students, faculty, and staff traveling abroad.
Thomas Beard, Program Assistant, Sr., ISSS - Room 200
Thomas Beard is a lifelong resident of Louisville, KY. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Louisville. He is currently working on his Master of Urban Planning degree in the Urban and Public Affairs department at the University. Thomas works closely with the International Student and Scholar Services Coordinators to integrate International students into the University. He also assists in entering International Student records into the University wide system. He enjoys being an advocate for the University of Louisville community.
Ashley Gray, International Student and Scholar Coordinator, Room 203
Ashley Gray is an alumna from the University of Louisville, earning her degree in Spanish and minor in Justice Administration. She completed her Master's degree in International Affairs from American University. Post education, Ashley worked for the U.S. Department of State as a Foreign Service Officer where she was responsible for adjudicating visas and assisting U.S. citizens overseas. Her assignments were at the U.S. embassies in Accra, Ghana, Mexico City, Mexico, and Islamabad, Pakistan. She is now working at the International Center as an International Student Coordinator.
Anna, Yacovone, Study Abroad Advisor, SA, Room 103
Anna Yacovone is the new Study Abroad Advisor for the Office of Study Abroad and International Travel. In addition to advising students, Anna oversees marketing and promotion for study abroad at U of L. Originally from Sevierville, Tennessee, Anna attended Middle Tennessee State University and majored in Global Studies and Organizational Communication. She has studied abroad twice, including five weeks in Rome and Florence, Italy and six months in Bangkok, Thailand. She recently completed a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship in Vientiane, Laos, and is passionate about supporting students’ study abroad endeavors.
