Book Discussion Volunteer
What is the purpose of this event?
Book-in-Common small group discussions are an opportunity during Welcome Week for students to experience UofL's academic culture in a more relaxed setting before classes begin, and they also serve to introduce students to faculty, staff, student leaders and other first year students. Every faculty/staff facilitator is joined by an upperclass student leader as a co-facilitator. Ultimately, we want new students to make connections during this time (to you all and one another), and have a space to ask questions that are on their mind as the start of their college experience nears.
Event Timeline
Date: Friday, August 18
Time: 10:30 AM - 1:30 PM **includes a short logistics training and the duration of the event
We need 50+ faculty/staff leaders to keep the groups small, so we appreciate your willingness to volunteer! When you sign up to volunteer you will receive a copy of "Hidden America" (if you don't already have one), and in early August we'll send you the facilitation guide for the event; by and large, it'll be the same as 2016's guide. Logistics will be communicated at the brief 10:30 training, as there will be some significant changes to the event flow for 2017.
