Preparing Your Home Computer for Exchange (Outlook)
This page will help you prepare your home computer - whether personal or university-issued - for Exchange (Outlook). Click on the heading for your computer to see how to get the Outlook client, which antivirus protection you need, and how to get Microsoft Office.
Mac
- Outlook Client:
- Download Outlook 2011 from iTech Xpress.
- WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
- Antivirus: Use Symantec. (Available for download from iTech Xpress at http://louisville.edu/it/itechxpress).
- Microsoft Office: Purchase Office 2011 from iTech Xpress.
University-issued laptop (on-campus regularly)
- Outlook Client:
- See your Tier I about having Outlook installed using SCCM.
- WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
- Antivirus: Use Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection. (See your Tier I about having Forefront installed using SCCM.) Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.
- Microsoft Office: Purchase At Work media from iTech Xpress, if your department participates in the Microsoft Campus Agreement.
University-issued laptop (on-campus rarely)
- Outlook Client:
- Beginning Sept. 26, download Outlook 2010 from iTech Xpress at http://louisville.edu/it/itechxpress.
- WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
- Antivirus: Use Microsoft Security Essentials. (Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.)
- Microsoft Office: You may purchase At Work media from iTech Xpress, if your department participates in the Microsoft Campus Agreement.
If your laptop does not connect to the university network on a regular basis, Forefront antivirus will not receive necessary updates. IT recommends installing Microsoft Security Essentials.
Personal laptop
- Outlook Client:

- WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
- Antivirus: Use Microsoft Security Essentials. (Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.)
- Microsoft Office: You may purchase Work at Home media from iTech Xpress. (Your license expires when you leave the university.)
University-issued desktop at home

- Antivirus: Information Technology does not support antivirus software for Linux. (Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.)
- Microsoft Office: Information Technology does not support Office for Linux.
