Preparing Your Home Computer for Exchange (Outlook)

This page will help you prepare your home computer - whether personal or university-issued - for Exchange (Outlook). Click on the heading for your computer to see how to get the Outlook client, which antivirus protection you need, and how to get Microsoft Office.

Mac

University-issued laptop (on-campus regularly)

  • Outlook Client:
    1. See your Tier I about having Outlook installed using SCCM.
    2. WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
  • Antivirus: Use Microsoft Forefront Endpoint Protection. (See your Tier I about having Forefront installed using SCCM.) Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.
  • Microsoft Office: Purchase At Work media from iTech Xpress, if your department participates in the Microsoft Campus Agreement.

University-issued laptop (on-campus rarely)

  • Outlook Client:
    1. Beginning Sept. 26, download Outlook 2010 from iTech Xpress at http://louisville.edu/it/itechxpress.
    2. WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
  • Antivirus: Use Microsoft Security Essentials. (Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.)

    • If your laptop does not connect to the university network on a regular basis, Forefront antivirus will not receive necessary updates. IT recommends installing Microsoft Security Essentials.

  • Microsoft Office: You may purchase At Work media from iTech Xpress, if your department participates in the Microsoft Campus Agreement.

Personal laptop

  • Outlook Client:
    1. Beginning Sept. 26, download Outlook 2010 from iTech Xpress at http://louisville.edu/it/itechxpress.
    2. WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
  • Antivirus: Use Microsoft Security Essentials. (Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.)
  • Microsoft Office: You may purchase Work at Home media from iTech Xpress. (Your license expires when you leave the university.)

University-issued desktop at home

  • Outlook Client:
    1. Beginning Sept. 26, download Outlook 2010 from iTech Xpress at http://louisville.edu/it/itechxpress.
    2. WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
  • Antivirus: Use Microsoft Security Essentials. (Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.)

    • Since your desktop does not connect to the university network on campus, Forefront antivirus will not receive necessary updates. IT recommends installing Microsoft Security Essentials.

  • Microsoft Office: You may purchase At Work media from iTech Xpress, if your department participates in the Microsoft Campus Agreement.

  • Outlook Client:
    1. WebApp: Go to http://exchange.louisville.edu.
  • Antivirus: Information Technology does not support antivirus software for Linux. (Symantec must be removed from all non-Mac computers by Nov. 1, 2011.)
  • Microsoft Office: Information Technology does not support Office for Linux.
