Undergraduate Curriculum and Programs

The Department of Pan-African Studies has developed a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science degree. This provides an opportunity for structured undergraduate study in the multi-disciplinary field of Pan-African Studies. Students also have the choice of earning a minor in Pan-African Studies as well.

 

Requirements for a Minor in Pan-African Studies


PAS 200 -3 credit hrs 

Cultural Studies -6 credit hrs

Historical Studies -6 credit hrs

Social Studies – 6 credit hrs

Requirements for a Major in Pan-African Studies

Bachelor of Science Degree (39 credit hours)

Bachelor of Arts Degree (36 credit hours)

Core Courses (15 credit hrs)

3 hrs -- Core: PAS 200 (All Majors & Minors)

3 hrs -- Additional 200 level course: PAS 205, 210, 214 (MUH 214), 218 (MUH 218), 227

3 hrs -- Research Methods:  408

3 hrs -- Field research/Service Learning: 500, 506, or 586

3 hrs -- 500 level Capstone Course (Approved by the advisor): 510 (depending on topic), 512 (WGST 512/SOC 512), 514, 515, 516 (PHIL 516), 520, 528, 529 (EDAP 590), 531 (EDAP 592), 532, 533, 535, 540, 542 (WGST 543), 545 (WGST 545), 546, 547, 550, 551 (ENGL 550), 557 (PHIL 557), 560 (GEOG 520), 562 (WGST 540), 566 (PSYC 566) 567 (ENGL 567), 575 (ENGL), 577 (ENGL 577), 581 (ARTH 641), 586, 590 (HIST 590).

NOTE:  BA requires 12 hours of foreign language and BS requires 6-8 hours of foreign language
