Credit Transfer

You may complete all general education requirements online at UofL, or you may transfer credits from any regionally accredited university to fulfill these requirements. Students who have been enrolled at a KCTCS school and have fulfilled all general education requirements can have them transferred in their entirety and may begin immediately with online upper level coursework at UofL. UofL Academic Advisers are available to assist with your degree planning.


Credit for Prior Learning

In the first online core course, ELFH 300 Prior Learning Assessment, students evaluate and document their learning from work experiences, existing course credits and associate degrees, technical and specialized training to receive credit for the specialization. They may earn up to 48 credit hours in the specialization component at no cost (equivalent of up to 16 courses). Students then proceed to the remaining courses in the designated track.

    This flagship track helps students develop skills in leadership and knowledge for improving organizational and employee effectiveness related to productivity, workplace learning, work satisfaction, performance, morale and/or quality of work life.

    ELFH 300 Prior Learning Assessment (Portfolio Class)
    This course taken in the first semester introduces students to the process of producing a prior learning assessment portfolio/documentation of workplace learning (learning outside of the college classroom).
    Up to 42 credit hours may be awarded for documented work-place learning.


    ELFH 311 Needs Assessment
    This course addresses occupationally specific training and organizational needs. Students develop a proposal to conduct a needs assessment and a customized data collection instrument.


    ELFH 312 Designing Learning
    This course, which must be taken within the first two semesters, teaches the student to develop curriculum relevant to specific job requirements in occupations. It includes tasks analysis, measurable performance objectives, lesson designs, and course material development.


    ELFH 314 Diversity in the Workplace
    This course examines the challenges and rewards of individual and group differences within workplaces. It focuses on application of cultural competence and diversity solutions to meet group, organizational, and societal development goals.


    ELFH 316 Instructional Strategies and Group Facilitation Techniques
    This course addresses instructional design strategies and group facilitation techniques for workplace and educational based initiatives. Students deliver critiqued lessons to communicate knowledge and skills needed for successful workforce advancement.


    ELFH 332 Measuring and Evaluating Effectiveness
    This course teaches the student how to assess the effectiveness of instructional programs and learning in the cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains. Prerequisite: ELFH 312.


    ELFH 341 Manage Projects Work
    This course teaches the student to create and manage learning facilities, events and assignments, including budgets, tasks and resources. Tools and skills of Project Management are emphasized.


    ELFH 411 Human Resource Fundamentals
    This course is an overview of roles in field of resource management in context of the overall field of HRM, the relationship to workplace performance and the roles and competencies required in workforce leadership.


    ELFH 412 Coaching and Talent Management
    This course addresses knowledge, skills, and dispositions for workforce leaders in talent management, career development, and coaching strategies to maximize performance and goal attainment at individual, group, and organizational levels.


    ELFH 420 Negotiation and Conflict Management
    This course addresses the study and discussion of conflict, its types, sources, and processes with special emphasis in organizational conflict. Additionally, it introduces students to negotiation, mediation, and other alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.


    ELFH 442 Supporting Organizational Change
    This course focuses on the reasons for and causes of change in organizations, and the professional and personal competencies to support change.


    ELFH 460 Adult Learning and Diversity
    This course focuses on theories and principles of adult learning and diversity with emphasis on their application to the education and helping professions as well as applications of career planning and talent management.


    ELFH 490 Leadership and Management
    This course introduces students to the management functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling as they apply to leadership of workplace learning and performance.


    ELFH 575 Instructional Technology
    This course provides knowledge and hands-on understanding on current and emerging workforce instructional technologies. Students will learn the theoretical foundation of technology-assisted learning, and various techniques for designing and delivering technology-enhanced learning solutions. Prerequisites: ELFH 311


    ELFH 578 Workplace & Information Ethics
    This course focuses on ethical perspectives at individual, group, organizational and societal levels as they apply to leadership in workplaces and management of organizational information; includes examination of social responsibility.


    ELFH 540 Program Exit Experience
    This is the final course and intended to show mastery of the program standards. It includes two components: 1) a supervised professional work experience related to the student’s program and professional goals; 2) a professional portfolio with reflection paper that analyzes learning related to the Workforce Leadership and Performance standards. Students must submit an Application for practicum one semester prior to enrollment.


  • Career and Technical Education

    This track is designed specifically for career and technical education instructors in Kentucky technical centers or secondary schools who want to become "state certified" to secure their teaching position. Courses focus on teaching, evaluation and classroom management skills. Graduates receive a Rank II from the Department of Education by completing the TC-1 form.

    Qualifying individuals have earned an associate degree in the content area in which the teacher certification is sought, and have been accepted to the New Teacher Institute program through the Kentucky Department of Education.

    The BSOLL Career and Technical Education Grades 5-12 Rank Change program requires completion of the NTI courses, as well as up to 24 hours of the degree core courses, for a total of 120 hours with an overall grade point average of 2.25 and a grade point average of 2.5 and a C or better earned in all major courses.

  • Can I enroll in the program if I still have General Education courses to complete?

    Yes, as long as you have been admitted to the College of Education & Human Development and the Organizational Leadership and Learning degree program. The academic counselor will work with you to identify the necessary courses and options.

  • Will I pay UofL tuition for the credits I am awarded from my work experience and/or military/industry training?

    No, you will earn those credits free of charge! In other words, by completing the ELFH 300 Prior Learning Assessment course (which is a 3-credit hour class at normal tuition cost), and submitting a completed portfolio in which you will document and validate your work experience (i.e., on-the-job training, professional development, etc.) and/or military and /or industry training; you will be credited (based upon Committee decision), at NO cost, up to 48 credit hours.

  • Is the major track mandatory?

    Yes. One of the requirements for graduation is satisfactory completion of the courses within the major track. Admitted students will receive a program sheet that outlines academic and exit requirements.

  • Upon completion of the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and Learning degree, can I pursue my master’s in another field?

    Yes. Some graduates of the BSOLL degree continue their education and receive their Master's in Human Resources and Organizational Development, Communications and many other fields. The graduate program you are seeking will be the determining factor due to varied requirements.
