The world says goodbye to former SC Governor Jim Edwards, ULSD alumnus
Former South Carolina Governor and 1954 ULSD graduate Jim Edwards passed away last month. He gained national attention as the first Republican governor elected in South Carolina since Reconstruction.
Following his gubernatorial career, Dr. Edwards was appointed Secretary of the Department of Energy by President Ronald Reagan and later served as president of the Medical University of South Carolina for 17 years.
Dr. Edwards remained a proud University of Louisville alumnus throughout his life, and established an endowed chair in oral surgery as part of his estate plan.
