Mary Lee and George F. Duthie Chair in Engineering Logistics

J.B. Speed School of Engineering

Established June 1998

To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, adopted alumni George and Mary Lee Duthie established an endowed chair in engineering logistics, the science of efficiently and cost-effectively moving goods and services from one location to another. In conjunction with the Logistics and Distribution Institute, the Duthie chair helps stimulate the regional economy by being a resource to help area manufacturers, carriers and distributors gain logistical efficiencies and competitive advantages.

George Duthie, an engineer, is the former owner of Stewart Mechanical, a contract engineering firm. The Duthies were inspired to endow a faculty position at U of L after reading a newspaper article about the importance of endowed chairs to the university's research efforts. Their gift received matching funds from the state.
