School of Medicine
Established November 1998
This professorship was established through the estate of J. Samuel Bumgardner, Louisville's first otolaryngologist. Bumgardner received his medical degree from U of L in 1928.
The otolaryngology professor is charged with leading research in oncological and environmental health related to cancers of the head and neck. This is one of three U of L medical chairs or professorships established through Bumgardner's generosity and Kentucky's Research Challenge Trust Fund.
