STRIDE Workshop: Enhancing Faculty Recruitment through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

The STRIDE (Strategies and Tactics for Recruiting to Improve Diversity and Excellence) Workshop is meticulously designed to empower search committees with the knowledge and skills essential for identifying, recruiting, and hiring high-quality faculty members while upholding the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion within the University community.

Recognizing that search committees often receive limited training in recruitment practices, the STRIDE Workshop addresses this gap by offering thorough and structured education to committee members. Backed by research indicating that faculty search success is significantly enhanced through the education of search committee members, this workshop equips participants with the tools and strategies needed to make informed decisions during the recruitment process.

Key Workshop Components:

  1. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Frameworks: Participants will delve into the fundamental principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion, gaining a comprehensive understanding of their importance in faculty recruitment.

  2. Recruitment Strategies: The workshop will explore effective and inclusive recruitment strategies that align with the University's commitment to diversity. This includes insights into outreach, networking, and targeted approaches to attract a diverse pool of candidates.

  3. Asking Relevant Questions: Emphasis will be placed on the significance of asking targeted and relevant questions during the recruitment process. Participants will learn how to seek and obtain information crucial to evaluating candidates against the requirements of the designated job.

  4. Decision-Making Enhancement: Through case studies and interactive exercises, the workshop will provide practical experience in improving the decision-making skills of search committee members. Participants will gain insights into evaluating candidates holistically while ensuring alignment with the University's values.

  5. Best Practices in Faculty Search: The workshop will highlight proven best practices in faculty search, drawing on successful case studies and real-world examples. Participants will leave with a toolkit of strategies to implement in their respective search committees.

By participating in the STRIDE Workshop, search committee members will not only contribute to the excellence of faculty recruitment but also foster an inclusive academic environment that reflects the diverse perspectives and backgrounds essential for a thriving University community.
