UofL, Enterprise to offer campus car-sharing program
The University of Louisville and Enterprise Rent-A-Car will offer an on-campus car-sharing program for faculty, staff and students beginning this fall to help reduce student and employee need for cars.
The WeCar by Enterprise program provides around-the-clock automobile access through hourly, daily and overnight rentals. The UofL program begins in August with two fuel-efficient Toyota Corollas for Belknap Campus and one at the Health Sciences Center.
“We are working with WeCar to bring an affordable transportation option to our students, faculty and staff,” said Larry Owsley, UofL vice president for business affairs. “This initiative provides students and employees with additional transportation options, even if they don’t have a vehicle on campus. In fact, we hope the program will reduce the need for cars on campus and contribute to our sustainability efforts.”
WeCar members can reserve a vehicle online, then access it using a membership card and return it to the same location. Costs will range from $8 per hour to $56 per day and includes fuel, 200 free miles, insurance for basic physical damage to the vehicle and state-required liability protection.
Employees will pay a one-time $10 fee to join WeCar. Students will pay a $35 annual membership fee.
“WeCar provides students at the University of Louisville with a low-cost, convenient transportation solution located right on the campus,” said Ryan Johnson, assistant vice president, WeCar and RideShare for Enterprise. “Our car-sharing program is a sustainable, totally automated and efficient mobility option that can help alleviate parking and transportation challenges at universities across the United States.”
The program will be available to students and employees 18 years and older.
