Minor in Middle East and Islamic Studies

This program offers an interdisciplinary study of Islam and the Middle East through coursework in anthropology, art history, history, humanities, pan-African studies, political science, sociology, and Arabic language.

Students can receive MEIS credits for Pol SC. 399 Religion and International Politics.

Program Requirements

I. Humanities (9 hours)

A. One course in Arabic language at the 200 level or above (prereq: ARAB 121,122,123)

B. Two additional courses in Humanities  selected from the following list::

      • ARTH 367
      • HUM 306, 313, 316, 349 (cross-listed with PAS)

II. Social Sciences (9 hours)

Three courses in Social Sciences (with no more than 6 hours in any one department) selected from the following list:

  • ANTH 319

  • POLS 355, 363
  • PAS 349 (cross-listed with HUM)
  • SOC 460
