Welcome to the Middle East and Islamic Studies Program at the University of Louisville!
The program in Middle East and Islamic Studies (MEIS) promotes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of culture, history, politics, literature, and religions of the Middle East and Islamic worlds. Our mission is to promote research and education on this region and on Islam to the University community. The program adopts the philosophy that is it necessary to acquire skills and competence in major regional languages.
The MEIS program was launched in 2006-2007. This interdisciplinary undergraduate program gives students the opportunity to explore Middle East and Islamic studies from both a social science and humanities perspective. MEIS combines Arabic language study with coursework in anthropology, art history, humanities, history, and political science. Please peruse our web site or visit us in Stevenson Hall, Rooms 310 and 311, for more information about the program.
