Faculty and Staff

Greetings Faculty and Staff!
The Dean of Students Office is pleased to provide programs, services, and awards to assist our Faculty & Staff. For example, the purpose of the Student Care Team (SCT) is to provide a regular opportunity for communication between departments, ensuring that all the resources of the University of Louisville are available to students in crisis. We also provide many Policies & Procedures that address student campus conduct such as the Classroom Disruption Policy and a Helping Students in Distress Folder.
A great resource for all Faculty and Staff is the CardSafety Application available for iPhone, Blackberry and Android.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer -- 3 simple steps that anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich Maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer someone to help. Each year thousands of Americans, like you, are saying "Yes" to saving the life of a friend, colleague, sibling, or neighbor. QPR can be learned in our Gatekeeper course in as little as one hour."

Response Guide for Dealing with Difficult Student Situations
The Student Care Team developed this guide to inform response to difficult situations that may occur in and outside of the classroom. Keep in mind that there will be variables which direct faculty and staff to an appropriate response. This is not an all-encompassing list, nor are you expected to deal with these situations alone. Utilize the campus resources recommended throughout the document.
Persona Non Grata
The Persona Non Grata status is assigned to individuals who are not allowed on any University of Louisville property or at any University-sponsored events (on and off campus) due to their involvement in past incidents of policy infraction or criminal activity. If individuals on the list are found on University premises or at University sponsored events (on or off campus), the University Police will be called and they may be cited or arrested for criminal trespass. There is an appeal process in which, the online form and supporting documentation must be completed. The Student Care Team will review and make a recommendation regarding the appeal to the Dean of Students for final action.
Often students are the first to become aware of a concern that might jeopardize the safety of others in our university community. All members of the university community need to take an active role in reporting threats or concerns that could lead to violence or other criminal activity. The Silent Witness Program Anonymous Reporting Form was developed to allow members of the university community to anonymously report the following types of incidents:
- Witness a crime
- Are a victim of a crime but do not wish to make an official police report
- Become aware of suspicious activity on campus
- Are concerned with the welfare of an individual
If you witness a crime or suspicious activity on campus or you are a victim of a crime and do not wish to make an official police report and you would like to report it anonymously, please report here.
Classroom Disruption is considered a violation of the Code of Student Conduct. Please visit for more information.
Compassionate Withdrawal Policy
A student may request and be considered for a compassionate withdrawal when incapacitating circumstances, such as a serious illness or injury, prevent the student from continuing classes or from seeking academic withdrawal in the usual way. The compassionate withdrawal policy covers both physical and mental health.
Assistance for Victims of Violence
University Police emphasizes victim assistance in their response to reports of crime. If you need immediate help for a crisis situation please call: 502-852-6111 or 911 (on campus) or 1-877-803-7577 (in the community). (University Police will call PEACC if a student asks for assistance.)
