All Winter Session courses are offered 100% online in three intensive weeks. Enrollment is open to current, new, transfer or visiting UofL students.



*If the class requires a comprehensive final, the exam will take place on January 4.

Course code designations (WC, OC, M, S, SL, B, H, A, SB, CD1, CD2) appear in the course title (as an extension of the title) for the General Education courses. These codes are used for tracking purposes. They indicate the general education requirement(s) that the course fulfills. Some courses are assigned more than one code if they fulfill more than one requirement. The codes can be interpreted as meeting the following General Education Requirements (GERs):

A -- “Arts” Course under Arts & Humanities Requirement

CD1 -- African, Asian/Pacific Islander, Hispanic, or Native American ethnicities

TUITION

  • Cost

    All online courses are charged the standard Distance Education tuition rates:

    • $497/credit for undergraduate courses
    • $714/credit for graduate courses
    • $250/credit for all active duty military*

    *Active-Duty is defined as on orders for 180 days or more. Any student planning on using military benefits should contact the Office of Military and Veteran Student Services prior to enrollment. Connect with Carissa Gentry at 502.852.0998 or carissa.gentry@louisville.edu.

    Online courses are charged at a different hourly rate than regular courses. Students are charged in full for online courses according to those rates even if taking a full-time course load. Tuition rate does not include costs associated with a specific course or program, such as textbooks.

    UofL employees and dependents may use their tuition remission benefits for Winter Session classes provided they have not reached their limit for the fall term. Winter Session is considered part of the fall term. For more information about tuition remission, see http://louisville.edu/hr/benefits/education.

  • Financial Aid

    For financial aid purposes, the Winter Session is considered part of the fall semester. Visiting students are not eligible for financial aid for the winter session. Limited financial aid may be available for current students but it is not guaranteed.

    If you are a current UofL student, it is best to talk with a financial aid counselor as soon as you plan to register for the winter session to see what options may be available to you. Financial aid must be processed at least three day before the university closes for the holidays on 12/23/17. Students wishing to use financial aid for winter session should contact the Financial Aid office immediately after registering.

    • FAFSA – Financial Aid may be available if you have remaining eligibility from your aid programs
      • You need to have FAFSA on file for 2017-2018
        • If you are a transfer student, make sure UofL’s school code (001999) is on your FAFSA
      • If you do not have 2017-2018 FAFSA on file, you will need to complete it as soon as possible using your 2015 tax information at www.fafsa.gov
    • Scholarships - Check scholarship availability with the department in which you are enrolled. Trustees/Porter/Cardinal Covenant scholarships cannot be used during the winter session per the terms of condition for the scholarship program
    • KRS tuition waiver - Students with KRS documentation on file associated with veterans, police officers, firefighters, state employees, supervising or resource teachers, and foster or adopted children will be automatically awarded tuition benefits as long as standard eligibility conditions are met
    • Kentucky State Grant or KEES - state money only applies to the traditional fall and spring terms and will not pay for the winter session

Please note that the Financial Aid office will be closed 12/23/17 – 1/1/18. Students who need to speak with a financial aid counselor about aid for winter session must contact the office prior to Friday, 12/23/17.

  • Billing

    Students will receive a tuition bill for Winter Session 2 days after registration.

    Bills will be due Thursday, December 14, 2017. There will be no late fees assessed, but students can be placed on financial hold for spring term (and subsequent terms) for lack of payment.

  • Library Support

    Ekstrom and Kornhauser Libraries will operate on intersession hours between 12/13/17 – 1/7/18.

  • Academic Support
    • Information about REACH tutoring services and programs can be found by visiting www.reach.louisville.edu. Tutoring is only available online during Winter Session, and only for the following courses from 12/13/17 – 12/23/17:
      • ANTH 201
      • HUM 151
      • POLS 201
      • PSYC 201
      • SOC 201
    • The University of Louisville Writing Center (including the Virtual Writing Center) will be closed from 12/13/17 – 1/8/17. However, students can access valuable resources such as FAQS and instructional videos by visiting http://louisville.edu/writingcenter/for-students-1
  • Technical Support
    • Student Tech support services are available throughout the Winter Session by phone: (502) 852-7997
    • Helpdesk hours are available every day from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. except on 12/25/17
    • If you have an urgent request during off hours, call the helpdesk and your call will be transferred to an on-call technician, or you can leave your request on voicemail. Your call will be returned the next day starting at 7 a.m. unless you specify a time.
  • Disability Resource Center

REGISTER/APPLY

Please note: if you have not applied to the university, you must apply for admission before registering for Winter Session courses. See details in sections below. If you applied but have not been admitted, you will be able to register once you have been admitted and activated your account.

Students on campus in the winterRegistration for the Winter Session classes is now Open! Classes start on December 13 and end on January 4 for comprehensive finals only. If there is no comprehensive final, the last day of that class is January 3, 2018.

Last day to drop/add classes is December 14.

The registration form will require you to enter your information and select the class you would like to add. Your registration request will be sent via email to the Registrar’s Office for processing. If you do not receive a reply within 48 hours of your request, please send an email to register@louisville.edu.


 

  • I’m a Current UofL Student

    If you are currently enrolled (continuing student) at UofL, you may register now. If you have not already done so, please speak with your advisor if you are interested in registering for Winter Session courses.

  • I’m a New or Transfer Student

    If you want to take Winter Session courses at UofL as a new, readmitted or transfer, you will need to complete an application for admission. Please apply early to ensure there is enough time to process your application. Based on your qualifications, you can apply to an undergraduate or graduate program:

    How to apply:

    • Undergraduate Admission – visit page
      • Submit application and $25 application fee
    • Graduate Admission – visit page
      1. Contact the Graduate Program of interest to determine eligibility for the course or degree program
      2. Submit the graduate application for degree status to the program of interest OR Submit the graduate application as a non-degree visiting student to the graduate program offering the course (by established deadline) at http://louisville.edu/graduate.
      3. Pay the graduate application fee of $65
      4. The graduate program will make the admission decision and notify Graduate Admissions
      5. Graduate Admissions will process the admit, so that the student may register for Winter Session courses

  • I'm a Visiting or Returning Student

    If you are currently attending other institutions or have graduated from UofL and are interested in taking Winter Session courses at UofL as a visiting student, you will need to complete an application for admission and indicate that you will be a “non-degree” student.

    If you are a returning (post-master’s) student interested in taking a Winter Session course, you are required to submit an application for admission to the Graduate School indicating that you will be a “non-degree” student.

    Please apply early to ensure there is enough time to process your application.

    How to apply:

    Undergraduate students:

    1. Visit undergraduate application page
    2. Submit application and $25 application fee

    Graduate students:

    1. Contact the Graduate Program of interest to determine eligibility for the course or degree program
    2. Submit the graduate application as a non-degree visiting student to the graduate program offering the course (by established deadline). http://louisville.edu/graduate

    4. Visiting students will not need to use the online letter of recommendation option, as letters are not be required

    7. Graduate Admissions will process the admit, so that the student may register for Winter Session courses
