Research Enhancement Awardees:
Dr. Irina Kirpich will present, “The Role of Soluble Epoxide Hydrolase in Alcohol-Associated Liver Disease”
Dr. Kirpich is a tenure-track Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology. She received her PhD from the Pomor State University in Russia and her MPH in Management and Administration from the University of Louisville. Dr. Kirpich is a NIH-funded investigator with research interests in alcohol-associated liver disease, bioactive lipid mediators in liver injury and resolution of inflammation, and the gut-liver axis with a focus on intestinal barrier, gut microbiome and bacteria-derived molecules. Dr. Kirpich has successfully mentored young scientists toward independence.
Dr. David Magnuson will present, “Reverse engineering the Mammalian Spinal Cord”
Dr. Magnuson is the Friends for Michael Endowed Professor, Departments of Neurological Surgery, Anatomical Sciences & Neurobiology, and Engineering. His laboratory research is focused on the neurons and pathways in the spinal cord that are responsible for locomotion, and on applying what we learn about locomotor systems to spinal cord injury and repair.
