Justin D. Smith

Justin hails from the town of Tonganoxie, KS, and received his dual B.S. in chemistry from the University of Kansas and Universität Regensburg in 2011.  He started building houses in the family business at age 13, but has since decided to focus on building molecules, particularly with environmentally sustainable methodologies.

Tharique Ansari
Graduate Student

Tharique has completed his M.S. from Institute for Intensive Research in Basic Science, Mahatma Gandhi University Kerala, India. His research interests are mechanistic investigations in nanocatalysis, novel reaction methodologies, and catalyst development.

Armand Taussat

Armand is a third-year undergraduate from exchange program . His research interest is the development of sustainable heterogeneous catalysts

 Uyen Duong,
Graduate Student

Uyen is currently a graduate student in the department of chemistry and Conn Center for renewable energy research. She received B.S. in Organic Chemistry from Vietnam National University in 2008, and M.S. in Biochemistry at University of Louisville. Her current research interest is the direct isolation of lignin from lignocellulose through catalytic pathways.

Lucie Finck
Undergraduate Researcher

Lucie is a fourth-year undergrad from the National Graduate School of Chemistry of Montpellier, France. Her research interest is the development of transition-metal free green synthetic methodologies.

David Kline
Undergraduate Researcher

David is an undergraduate student at The University of Louisville, majoring in Economics while Pre-Med. He is from Prospect, KY and graduated Magna Cum Laude from North Oldham High School, in 2015. In the past, David has spent time shadowing numerous surgeons in the fields of both cardiothoracic and general surgery. He has a special interest in medicinal chemistry and hopes to one day attend medical school.

Jesse Klus
Undergraduate Researcher

Jesse is an undergraduate student at the University of Louisville, majoring in both Chemistry and Spanish and minoring in Biology. She is from Lexington, KY and graduated from Sayre School in 2016. She is involved in a nanocatalysis project. She has a strong passion for doing a Ph.D. in Chemistry.

Josh Portillo
Undergraduate Researcher

Joshua is in his second semester at the University of Louisville, pursuing a degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry. Joshua graduated from St. Xavier high school in 2014. His current research work is the development of photocatalytic transformations in water.

Rachel Armstrong
Undergraduate Researcher

Rachel is an undergraduate student at The University of Louisville, majoring in Biology. Recently, she received the SROP fellowship for conducting research on the photocatalysis in water. She has a particular interest in the organic synthesis and medicinal chemistry and hopes to one day attend medical school.

Graham Reynolds
Undergraduate Researcher

Graham studied at the Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Math & Science with a focus on Chemistry and now studies Biochemistry at UofL. He has previously done research with the University of Louisville under Dr. Nobuyuki Matoba at the Mitchell Memorial Cancer Center in Owensboro, Kentucky where he's from.

 

Jobi Jose
High School Student Researcher

Jobi is a senior at the duPont Manual High School. Recently, he achieved honors in the National Chemistry Olympiad exam. His future interest is to be a physician.

Jacob Coates
High School Student Researcher

Jacob is juniors at Community Montessori Charter Public School in Southern Indiana. The school’s charter is authorized by Ball State University.

Logan Fitzpatrick
High School Student Researcher

Logan is juniors at the Community Montessori Charter Public School in Southern Indiana. The school’s charter is authorized by Ball State University.

Bhavana Pavuluri
High School Student Researcher

Bhavana is a sophomore at the duPont Manual High school. She is an MST student and participates in clubs such as Science Olympiad and Science Bowl. She is currently the Associate Director of Funding for STEMY, a student-run nonprofit organization. Currently, she is a summer student in our group. She will also continue her research work (part-time) in Fall 2018. Currently, she is working on C-H functionalization with Dr. Bora.

 

Bhargav Ramesh
High School Student Researcher

Bhargav is a senior at the duPont Manual High school. He is an MST student and participates in clubs such as Science Olympiad and Science Bowl. He is a summer student in our group and will also continue his research work (part-time) in Fall 2018. Currently, he is working on sustainable catalysis in water with Dr. Bora.
