The Quality Enhancement Plan is a university-wide, multi-year initiative for improving student learning and/or student success. Developing and proposing a QEP is a component of our institution’s upcoming reaffirmation process with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), which is committed to quality assurance in higher education. The focus of a QEP is determined through our institution’s ongoing, comprehensive planning and evaluation processes and reflects engagement with, and support of, broad-based institutional constituencies. Past QEPs at UofL have focused on critical thinking across the curriculum, culminating undergraduate experiences, and a small seminar experience to support students with major and career discernment.
Quality Enhancement Plan: what’s new?
The University of Louisville is scheduled for reaffirmation of accreditation in 2027 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC). In preparation for developing and implementing an effective SACSCOC reaffirmation process that will lead to a successful accreditation on-site visit, several committees have been established to address the Principles of Accreditation. The co-chairs of the 2027 QEP Development Committee are Meg Hancock, associate professor in Sport Administration, and Patty Payette, executive director of the Quality Enhancement Plan.
The general timeline for the development of the next QEP is:
- Spring 2025: QEP Development Committee convenes and begins reviewing institutional data and strategic planning priorities to launch topic development phase
- Fall 2025: After initial rounds of topic feedback, Development Committee finalizes QEP topic and begins vetting QEP project plan with campus constituents
- Spring 2026: Development Committee continues to refine its QEP plan and begins drafting QEP Proposal document
- Fall 2026: Development Committee finalizes the QEP proposal document, including assessment plan and five-year project timeline
- Spring 2027: SACSCOC On-site Review is held on campus, including discussion and feedback on our QEP proposal
