Admission Requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in any field from an accredited college or university
  2. The typical successful applicant has an undergraduate degree with a GPA of 2.75 or above (on a 4.00 scale).*
  3. Updated resume or curriculum vitae (admissions committee will review for healthcare experience).
  4. One-page personal statement written by the applicant that is a clear, substantive description of his or her career goals in public health and health care management.

MSHA graduates or currently enrolled MSHA students are not eligible to receive this healthcare management certificate. The MSHA CAHME-accredited degree is the appropriate and sufficient credential for development.

Note: GMAT/GRE scores are not required for admission.

*You will need to maintain a 3.0 for the courses taken to satisfy the 14-credit hour certificate requirement.

International Applicants

If you live outside of the United States and intend to complete an online academic program from your home country, be sure to review these additional requirements for international students.

  • Postsecondary transcripts. Transcripts from institutions not in English will require a foreign credential evaluation.
  • Students whose primary language is not English must show English language proficiency by attaining one of the following:
    • TOEFL test score of 90 or higher (after conversion for test type), OR
    • Submitting an ECFMG (Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates) certification, OR
    • Successful completion of the exit examination for the advanced level of the Intensive English as a Second Language (IESL) program, OR
    • Duolingo English test score of 105 or higher
    • Demonstration of a degree from an accredited U.S. institution (requires provisional admission with evaluation of English language competency)

The online Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management is a 14-credit hour program, with each course delivered in an 8-week course format, 100% online. Students will need to attain a minimum of a 3.0 GPA to be awarded the certificate.

      The online Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management is designed for current or future healthcare professionals who are interested in gaining the knowledge and skills needed to effectively manage and lead in a multitude of healthcare settings. This certificate is intended for professionals currently working in the healthcare field; including nurses, clinical workers and allied health administrators who want to enhance their skills and advance to leadership and management positions.

    • What are the GPA requirements for admission into the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management program?

      A minimum GPA of 2.75 (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited college or university at the undergraduate level is required for admission into the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management program. However, students who have a lower GPA can request admission on a provisional basis by explaining the reason for their interest in the program and by reviewing their undergraduate GPA with the Program Director.

    • Do I have to submit the one-page personal statement for admission into the program?

      Yes, the one-page personal statement is required for admission into the Graduate Certificate in Healthcare Management program. To confirm that an applicant has experience in the healthcare field and that they are well suited for this certificate a one-page personal statement written by the applicant with substantive information on his or her career goals in public health and healthcare management is required.

    • Can I use the credits earned in the certificate program towards the Master of Science in Health Administration online degree:

      Yes, students can apply the certificate credits toward UofL’s USNWR top-ranked and CAHME-accredited online Master of Science in Health Administration degree (upon approval; must apply to the master’s program separately).
