Ambassadors Make a Difference in 2014-15
On behalf of everyone at the LGBT Center, we would like to take this opportunity to express our deep thanks and gratitude to our amazing team of student Ambassadors and Senior Ambassador team leaders!
Over the past year, each member of the Ambassador team contributed significantly to the success of advancing the mission of the LGBT Center. Ambassadors staffed the center for 3-5 hours per week, volunteered for all major events and programs, participated in Speakouts, advised center staff on important issues, provided resources to students and visitors and created a safe, welcoming environment to those who needed it most. As part of their leadership development training, Ambassadors participated in monthly workshops on topics such as conflict resolution, team building, crisis intervention, event programming, personal image/branding and time management.
In addition to working in the center and volunteering for programs, each Ambassador developed and implemented an outreach project to serve the broader campus community. Outreach projects included: launching Shades, a new RSO dedicated to meeting the needs of LGBTQ students of color; co-facilitating Pride Interfaith Service; serving as a liaison to the Latin American & Hispanic Student Organization (LAHSO); assisting with the Fifth Annual Human Trafficking Awareness Conference; serving as a liaison to Greek Life; coordinating sign language interpreters for Pride Week; hosting Pride Week open mic and serving as a liaison to the Interfaith Center.
Perhaps the greatest highlight for the Ambassador Team was the opportunity to participate in a Civil Rights Immersion Experience. Together, with the MLK Scholars and students from the Rustin Community, Ambassadors toured historic sites in Selma, Montgomery and Birmingham Alabama. During the four-day trip, Ambassadors made powerful connections between the civil rights struggles of 50 years ago to the issues of today.
Please join us in appreciating the 2014-2015 LGBT Center’s Ambassador & Senior Ambassador Team. On behalf of everyone served by UofL’s LGBT Center, many thanks to:
