Artistic Expression as Social Medicine: The Cultural Pass Program and its Impact on Loneliness

This page shares information about participating in the Cultural Pass Survey.

You are being invited to participate in a research study. The purpose of this study is to assess the impact of participation in the Fund for the Arts Cultural Pass program on loneliness in seniors (adults who are 65 years and older) using the UCLA Loneliness Scale. This study is conducted by Dr. Ted Smith of the University of Louisville.

Your participation in the study will involve taking two surveys, one at the beginning of the Cultural Pass season and one at the end. Each survey will take approximately 12 minutes to complete. There are no known risks for your participation in this research study. The information you provide will help the Fund for the Arts to understand if the Cultural Pass program can alleviate feelings of loneliness in seniors. Your information will be stored on electronic, password protected devices at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. The information collected may not benefit you directly. The information learned in this study may be helpful to others.

Individuals from the Department of Medicine, the Institutional Review Board (IRB), the Human Subjects Protection Program Office (HSPPO), and other regulatory agencies may inspect these records. In all other respects, however, the data will be held in confidence to the extent permitted by law. Should the data be published, your identity will not be disclosed.

Taking part in this study is voluntary. By answering survey questions, you agree to take part in this research study.  You do not have to answer any questions that make you uncomfortable. You may choose not to take part at all. If you decide to be in this study, you may stop taking part at any time. You will not lose any benefits for which you may qualify by stopping participation.
