KentuckyOne
On November 1, UofL will acquire the Louisville-area KentuckyOne assets, helping secure the future of medical care and health research for our Commonwealth. The new UofL Health system will extend the university’s ability to bring leading-edge research and quality care to Kentucky, while securing more than 5,500 jobs from the KentuckyOne system.
In order to ensure a successful transition, the university is counting on investments promised by two key community foundations and a state-awarded $50 million loan. Vital to our endeavor, these investments are proof that Kentucky’s leadership understands the many ways this acquisition brings value to our community.
What is the value to Kentucky's economy?
Since 2013, more than 90% of the University of Louisville’s research funding ($757 million) has been from non-state funded sources. But leading research institutions require significant investment to produce life-changing results.

$1 invested in UofL = $3.05 return to the economy.
This acquisition will secure $300 million in personal income from 5,500 jobs in the KentuckyOne system that would otherwise be in jeopardy. These employees stay in Kentucky, spending hard-earned money right here, investing back into our economy.
What is the value to our community?
The Louisville-area KentuckyOne assets currently serve more than 2 million patients per year. That means 2 million members of our community seek help, health and often life-saving care from these facilities every year.
What is the value to future generations of Kentuckians?
As a premiere R1-designated research institution, UofL is focused on tackling the health challenges of tomorrow. Our state’s future health depends on the important work being done today in the labs, classrooms and medical facilities benefiting from this acquisition.
How is UofL doing so far?
First Nationally
In 2018 UofL was ranked first nationally in example achievement.
What is the value to you?
Every year over 2 million members of our community seek help, health and life-saving care from these facilities. Here are a few of their stories:
Thanks to the generous support of Jewish Heritage Fund for Excellence, the Jewish and St. Mary’s Health Foundation and the bipartisan, bicameral support of our legislators in Frankfort in the securing a $50 million loan from the Commonwealth, the University of Louisville has enhanced its ability to bring leading-edge medical research, quality healthcare and economic prosperity to Kentuckians.
The confidence evident in these financial commitments demonstrates a prioritization of public interest and a shared belief in the value of the health of Kentucky residents.
