Guidelines
The guidelines for those with COVID symptoms or a positive test are different for the general community vs those in health care. Please see specific guidance for the general community or for health care.
General Community
The CDC has combined their guidelines for COVID with those of other viral respiratory infections such as influenza, common cold and respiratory syncytial virus. COVID is now treated like any common viral infection.
- Stay at home if you are sick or running a fever.
- Do not return to campus until you are without a fever for 24 hours without fever-reducing medications.
- COVID testing is not required to confirm the diagnosis or return to campus.
- If you choose to get tested outside of the health centers and you are positive, please CONSIDER notifying Campus Health at 502-852-6479. This helps gauge the incidence of COVID on campus.
- Contact Campus Health for guidance if needed at 502-852-6479.
- If you are an employee, be sure to notify your supervisor.
Healthcare Faculty, Staff, Trainees and Students
All faculty, staff, clinical trainees and student actively rotating in any of the affiliated clinical sights should follow the guidelines below.
- Stay at home if you are sick or running a fever.
- Obtain a COVID testing to confirm diagnosis.
- Isolate at home for 5 days if you test positive for COVID.
- You may return to your clinical duties on day 6 if you are afebrile x 24 hours off of fever-reducing medications.
- If you choose to get tested at home or a provider other than Campus Health and test positive, please notify Campus Health at 502-852-6479 of your test results. Campus Health will provide health care faculty, staff, trainees and students with special guidelines for health care related isolation requirements.
- Contact your medical provider if necessary
- If your please notify your supervisor, if applicable.
Testing
If you are experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID, please contact either Campus Health Center to schedule symptomatic testing and/or evaluation. Testing will be billed to your insurance or available at a discounted cash price. No appointment is required, but preferred. Testing without symptoms is not recommended.
Bring your current university ID and your medical insurance card to your testing appointment at Campus Health. All testing is billed to your insurance beginning 5/1/2022. Be sure to wear a mask and practice physical distancing while waiting. If you are not seen by a provider, you will be notified by text or email when your test results are available on the patient portal at https://louisvilleportal.pointnclick.com.

Vaccinations
Seasonal COVID Vaccine will be offerred by Campus Health Services once it becomes available by email. Once available the seasonal COVID vaccine will be billed to your insurance or available for a discounted cash price as the government is no longer providing free vaccinations. Details regarding COVID vaccine appointments will updated once the vaccine is available.
Lost vaccination cards
For those vaccinated at Campus Health, please call 852-6480 to speak to one of the staff regarding a replacement immunization card.
Contact Tracing
At this time, contact tracing is no longer recommended. If you happen to test positive at an outside facility, we would appreciate being notified but it is not required.
Exposures and Quarantine Guidelines
Exposures
Exposure is defined by the CDC as being less than 6 feet away from an infected person for a total of 15 minutes or more, regardless of masking or vaccination status. If you believe you have been exposed, you may continue to come to campus, consider masking in indoor public spaces and consider testing if you develop symptoms of COVID.
Quarantine (Discontinued 8/11/2022 per CDC)
Effective August 11, 2022, the CDC no longer recommends that individuals exposed to COVID quarantine due to the high natural immunity and/or vaccination rates EXCEPT FOR HEALTH CARE WORKERS. Health care workers include faculty, staff, trainees and students involved in direct patient care. Health care faculty, staff, clinical trainees and students continue to follow the 5+5 rule. Isolate for 5 days and wear a tight-fitting mask for an additional 5 days.
If you test positive, please notify Contact Tracing via email at tracing@louisville.edu or call 852-6479 for assistance. They can help with documentation for academic purposes.
Domestic and International Travel
The university has returned to pre-COVID procedures for domestic and international travel. For international travel, check the U.S. State Department for any COVID restrictions before traveling as some countries may still have COVID restrictions.
