All high school, community college and university students who have an interest in the health sciences are invited to gain tools needed for admission into professional and graduate school. The University of Louisville Schools of Dentistry, Medicine, Nursing and Public Health & Information Sciences will have representatives on hand to discuss with students the skills needed to navigate the road to higher education in health sciences.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Dr. Trinidad Jackson is a proud son of St. Louis, Missouri, and the 2014 Ferguson Uprising, sparked by the Ferguson Police Department’s murder of Michael Brown, provided a landscape for his critical social action research. Upon returning to Louisville in 2015, he applied the data collected in St. Louis to community-based participatory research that explored power, oppression and the need for critical consciousness and action through lenses of justice, safety, hope and racial equity. In July 2020, he presented to Louisville Metro Council, urging members to declare racism a public health crisis. He felt it critical to catalyzing government responsibility for a social phenomenon that kills so many people daily. In December 2020, an executive order addressing this crisis was declared, but the city has monumental gains to make before racially minoritized people are not suffering from premature death rooted in legacies of white supremacy.

In May 2022, Dr. Jackson earned his Ph.D. in Public Health Sciences, receiving both a Graduate Dean’s Citation and the Guy Stevenson Award—the highest honor given to one graduating student—and he was also the commencement speaker for the doctoral graduation ceremony. He is currently the inaugural Assistant Dean for Culture and Liberation, an assistant professor at SPHIS; he also holds a joint appointment as a Senior Advisor within the government sector and is the CEO of a company that prioritizes culture, liberation, art, and science.
