Mentor-Mentee Component

Utilization of best practices from the literature about characteristics, roles and responsibilities must underpin the identified relationship. The mentor’s characteristics, desire, knowledge and career success in one or more of the areas most needed by the mentee are essential to a successful mentor-mentee relationship. These relationships may require more than one mentor or may work best with more than one mentee based upon the needs of the mentee and the skills of the mentor. Strategies need to be set forth that allow for discontinuation of the mentoring relationship based upon accomplishment of the goals, evolution of professional goals or incompatibility. The literature clearly identifies that the mentoring relationship should be evaluated from the perspective of accomplishment of goals.
