Speed Art Museum and UofL Partnership
The University has announced a new and more extensive partnership between the Speed Art Museum and UofL. The Speed Art Museum recently reopened after a $60M expansion, providing new opportunities for the University and Museum to collaborate for the benefit of the university’s students, faculty, and staff and the community at-large.
The Speed Museum expansion includes state-of-the art space for larger special exhibitions; contemporary art galleries; a family education and welcome center; indoor/outdoor café; museum shop; a pavilion for performances, lectures, and entertaining; an art park and public piazza; and a cinema.
University faculty, staff, and students can enjoy FREE ADMISSION to the permanent collection, discounted admission for special exhibitions, and a 10% discount in the Museum Shop. In addition, the Museum’s facilities may be rented at a discounted rate. For students interested in arts curation or management, new career development through internships, fellowships and similar opportunities can be coordinated. The possibilities for enhanced teaching and research are countless.
Shannon Karol is the Teaching and Engagement Manager in the museum's Learning and Community Outreach Department. She is the primary liaison between the museum and university. You may contact her at skarol@speedmuseum.org with any questions.
The Speed is open to everyone with free admission on Sundays. Bring your family and friends on Sundays to enjoy all the Speed has to offer. Events of all kinds, including an outdoor movie series, will take place throughout the autumn. You can visit www.speedmuseum.org for a full listing of exhibitions, special events and activities.
Please take advantage of all the benefits this partnership provides. It is an exciting development for the university, the museum, and the city.
