Legal Aid is Hiring Eight Students to Help Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Fellows

The Legal Aid Society is hiring eight students to help their Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Fellows during the summer.

The Legal Aid Society is hiring eight students to help their Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Fellows during the summer in the following areas:

 1.   Four law students will help their Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Employment Opportunity Fellow identify legal solutions to remove barriers for low-income clients seeking employment.

 2.   Four law students will help their Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellows provide free civil legal services to veterans.

The students may receive a $1,230 Segal Education Award as part of his or her internship and are required to perform at least 300 hours of service to complete the internship by September 1, 2017.  These programs are administered through a partnership with the Legal Aid Society, Equal Justice Works, and AmeriCorps.

Students can expect to conduct legal research, perform client intake, manage volunteer lawyer referrals, conduct outreach, and prepare motions and pleadings.  The students will also be expected to organize legal clinics and similar projects.

Applicants should have completed his or her first year of law school, show good organizational skills, be comfortable conducting outreach with legal professionals and low-income clients.
