If you are interested in a summer 2022 internship with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the agency is taking applications for its Honors Internship Program through October 17, 2021.  Since the FBI must conduct its hiring early due to the extensive background searches required on those who are hired, the November 1 restriction is waived for 1Ls for beginning your summer job search with this employer.  You will find the application at https://www.fbijobs.gov.  The FBI has locations across the U.S. and offers many specialized career paths.  The career paths include Operations and Intelligence; Legal; Administration; Arts and Communications; Security; Business, Accounting and Finance; Medicine and Counseling; and Human Resources.  Please click here for information on the Honors Intern Program.

The FBI Summer 2022 Intern program is a 10-week program that runs from June through August 2022 with interns working 40 hours per week.  Once an intern returns to school in the fall, an obligation of 16 hours a month is required if the intern chooses to stay employed with the FBI and maintain their security clearance. The internship can continue as long as the GPA is a 3.0 or higher. In addition, students must sign an "FBI Honors Internship Program (HIP) Program Term Acknowledgement form", submit a completed FD-956 "Honors Internship Program School Certification", submit a resume and unofficial transcript at the time of application (an official transcript if they receive a job offer), and must possess the required educational level at the time of application.  You will be able to supplement your application with your transcript later since you won’t have a transcript until next semester.

The competencies the FBI looks for are flexibility/adaptability, initiative and motivation, critical thinking, interpersonal skills, ability to organize/plan/prioritize, as well as good written and oral communication skills.  The eligibility requirements to be considered for a position include being a U.S. Citizen, have an overall 3.0 GPA or higher on a 4.0 scale and one of the following degree requirements must be met: enrolled or graduated from an accredited college or university; pursued an undergraduate of higher-level degree by June 2022; received an undergraduate or higher-level degree within the past two years; or an eligible veteran who has received an undergraduate or higher-level degree within the past six years. The candidate must be able to pass an FBI employment background investigation in order to receive a Top Secret clearance.  The FBI has the following factors for disqualification: felony convictions; failure of a polygraph examination; failure of an FBI-administered urinalysis drug test; default on a student loan insured by the U.S. Government; failure to register with Selective Service System; and the use of illegal drugs in violation of the FBI Employment Drug policy.

NOTE to 1Ls:  As a 1L, don’t let the 3.0 GPA concern you.  The FBI knows you are in the first semester of your first year and will look at your undergrad grades.
