About Us
The Center for Genetics and Molecular Medicine (CGeMM) was established by the Board of Trustees in 1996 to facilitate advances in genetics and molecular medicine at the University of Louisville Health Sciences and Belknap campuses. CGeMM offers a forum for interactive opportunities through monthly meetings, seminars, and facility core access designed to promote collaborations among basic scientists and clinicians at UofL and affiliated hospitals. CGeMM investigators share common interests in genetics and molecular medicine and have research activities grouped into five major core areas:
- Biomarkers and Genetic Susceptibility
- Endocrinology and Developmental Biology
- Ethico-Legal and Social Implications
- Functional Genomics
- Molecular Toxicology
Each Core area involves investigators representing multiple departments and programs throughout the University.
The funded research of CGeMM investigators is enhanced through the use of Facility Cores that provide instruments, equipment, and trained personnel to assist with experiments involving Bioinformatics, Biostatistics and Computational Biology, Genomics, Proteomics, and Metabolomics. CGeMM supports innovations in research through the CGeMM Pilot Project Grant Program by providing funds for exploratory research projects. CGeMM has on-going partnerships with the James Brown Cancer Center and the Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure network (KBRIN) to promote new initiatives to advance education and research in genetics and molecular medicine at the University of Louisville.
The Center Membership is made up of 92 University of Louisville faculty members with common interests in the study of genetics and molecular medicine.
